How to choose a Social Media Manager for your business

Perth Social Media

You’re a business owner who recognises the many benefits of having a social media presence, but don’t have the time to maintain it. You’d like someone to manage it, but aren’t sure what you need, who to choose or where to begin.

My eBook, Instagram Volume 1 is strategy based and teaches you how to grow your business on Instagram.

In my experience as a Perth Social Media and PR expert, I’ve learnt that there are two types of Social Media Managers: The Content Creator and The Social Media Strategist.

What’s the difference and which one do you need for your business?

Read on to find out.

The Content Creator

The first type of Social Media Manager is the Content Creator.

Put simply, a Content Creator will create your images and captions for your social media accounts and set up a scheduled post routine.

Your monthly posts look pretty and they’re all scheduled out and ready to go, giving you more time to service your clients and work on other areas of your business.

However, if posting is all they’re doing, you’ll see very limited growth in your numbers and engagement. Sure, your content might look great but who is engaging with your followers?

The Social Media Strategist

The second type of Social Media Manager is the Social Media Strategist – this is where things get serious.

A Social Media Manager takes the time to get to know the ins and outs of your business. They will invest time in getting to know your stock, services, brand values, how you talk to your customers (brand voice) and how your sales process works.

Once familiar with your business and specific needs, they come up with social media strategies such as competitions, user-generated contest campaigns, story coverage that is more curated and targeted, PLUS spend 15 minutes, 5+ days per week, creating engagement on your account.

How is engagement created? By commenting on other social media accounts, responding and encouraging conversation on your platform and generating leads to your website and increased sales for your business.

As you can see, the role of a Social Media Strategist is substantially more involved and results driven.

What do you want from a Social Media Manager?

Now that you know the difference between a Content Creator and a Social Media Strategist, how do you choose which one is right for your business?

You need to determine what you want from a Social Media Manager:

  • Do you want your social media manager to just create the content, captions and schedule it for you and you do the engagement work yourself?

  • Or do you want someone to take over your social media account 100%?

Remember, these are two very different services, so be mindful of what you are paying for and the expectations you are setting.

By using a Social Media Strategist (like me) who takes over your account 100%, you’ll see direct ROI results with an increase in followers, engagement, website clicks and brand awareness in return. Who doesn’t want that?

In my next eBook, Instagram Volume 2, I share my campaign strategies and give you examples that you can implement on your own social media accounts. I also go through the analytics and insights for Instagram accounts, to help you understand what you need to do to see an increase in targeted objectives.
