Educating Through Social Media and Why you Should be Doing It

Consumers are constantly looking for something more from the accounts they follow, whether that be brands or influencers, whilst expecting the content they consume to be entertaining and engaging at the same time. This is almost certainly a reflection on how saturated the social domain has become, forcing those who want to succeed in it to do more with their profile. This may sound daunting, but in reality it's the perfect opportunity for you to share your knowledge and expertise with you following and shed a little light onto your field. Social media is an incredibly powerful educational tool, so don't be afraid to harness it!

When you are trying to create content that teaches your audience something new, it's important to hook them in. Take time to consider the best mode of delivery for your message and how you are going to grab their attention from the very first second.

Here are a handful of tips that will direct you on how to successfully begin educating online:

1. Research has shown that the majority of people scroll through Instagram and watch stories with their volume off. Ensure you can still capture these people's attention by using text and symbols in collaboration with music and voiceover.

2. Pick a topic you want to talk about, and research and refine your understanding/ideas before drafting a post.

3. Carefully consider your delivery method - if it requires a lengthy explanation, use captions for a high word capacity. If it requires a demonstration, utilise reels or IGTV.

4. Data is empowering - share highly visual statistics relevant to the industry or promote your business and spark conversation in the comments. Education can be as simple as creating quizzes on your stories, or generating polls so that your audience can educate YOU - this is essentially a free and accessible focus group for you.
