iPhone Photography Tips & Tricks

Given that content creators and business owners these days have to be in content mode 24/7 to maintain a social presence, it is so important that you are able to capture quality content on the fly. Luckily we all carry high quality cameras in our pocket these days with iPhone! Knowing how to use your phone camera properly can make a huge difference to the quality of your images and overall professionalism that they reflect.

CLEAN

Keep your lens clean to maintain quality and clarity.

FOCUS & EXPOSURE

iPhone will automatically focus and set exposure on a shot each time, but sometimes for creative reasons we want to be able to control the focus and exposure.

To do this, tap on your screen where you would like to focus, making your subject stand out and the background blur. This also sets the exposure (how light or dark the image is).

You will notice a small sun symbol appear which allows you to control the brightness by dragging your finger up/down.

AF LOCK

This allows you to lock in all of the above if you are shooting movement without having to adjust each time. To set, hold your finger on your subject for few seconds and a yellow box with AE/AF LOCK will appear. Simply set and allow the movement to happen, then capture.

FLASH

Don't use flash. Natural light is KING! Instead, play with your focus and exposure at night.

TIME-LAPSE

This feature is amazing fun for showing your creative process. Note, you need plenty of footage and a steady hand. Alternatively, you can set up a tripod.

GRID

Use a grid as a guide for balance to achieve the rule of thirds. Settings > Camera > Grid > Toggle on/off

TIMER

Perfect for selfies, so you don't have to hold the camera. Select the arrow at the top middle of the screen > select the timer symbol > select 3s or 10s

BURST MODE

Allows you to take clear actions shots while in motion. It actually allows you to take 10 shots in one second for minimal blur. Simply hold down the button and it will start taking photos. You can then go through and pick the best image and delete the others.

Great for any type of liquid movement, children playing, lifestyle photography,

and creatives in motion!

AVOID ZOOM

Don't use it. If you want to adjust your image, move closer to the subject. When using zoom, images end up blurred and you compromise on quality.

I can't wait to see all your clean, professional photography!
