The Transition from Swipe up to Link Sticker
Previously one of Instagram's more exclusive tools the ‘swipe up’ was the platforms most coveted feature, but it has now been made redundant in favour of the link sticker. This feature, unlike the swipe up, is available to all users regardless of their following count, verification status and influence. This increased access to linking tools will give all accounts the same opportunity for growth and engagement with followers.
So the question is, why bother redesigning the feature completely and what are the added benefits of the new format?
Enhanced Functionality
The new sticker follows a similar format to question boxes, polls and and countdowns, so it’s entire presence is more seamless and consistent with the story process. Link stickers also allow the creator more control as they can drag, reposition and resize the button to their liking, whereas the swipe up feature was not customisable. You are also able to add multiple stickers to one story, for example if you were promoting an outfit you could provide a link to the items as well as a poll asking your followers if they like the pieces.
Increased Stories Engagement
Now that links live within the story as a sticker rathe than as a swipe at the bottom of the screen, users can now reply to linked stories. This not only increases your opportunity for engagement but also allows your followers to give more meaningful feedback in a direct format.
How do I access link stickers?
In order to add a link to you story:
- Take a picture on stories as you typically would
- Tap the sticker icon
- Select the ‘link’ sticker
- Paste the web address you want the link to direct to
- Tap done
- Your customised link sticker will appear and you can now adjust the size and placement
- You’re ready to share!
